Timezone data

In different timezones there are other hours. While in Assuncion there is 10:39, in Kirimitati there is 03:00 of… next day. Instead of changing hardware clock (not possible because of no BIOS), we can set correct timezone for our location.

We must reconfigure package that sets timezone:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

In first dialog window, select the geographic area in which you live and press ENTER.

Then choose capital of your country and press ENTER. Your clock will be set correctly:

Current default time zone: "Europe/Warsaw"
Local time is now: Mon Oct 14 13:29:15 CEST 2013
Universal Time is now: Mon Oct 14 11:29:15 UTC 2013

  • NTP (synchronize clock with Internet) is enabled by default.
